Why come to our Eating Team?
Eating and drinking problems occur regularly in children, this can be accompanied by growth and developmental problems and emotional struggles. You can come to the specialized eating team for advice and treatment of eating and drinking problems in children of various ages. The following are common requests for help that we treat. We also treat other requests for help. If your request is not listed here, please contact us.
Who is the dietteam for?
The eating team can support your family with various issues, such as:
- Picky eaters
- Critical eaters
- Difficult eaters
- Complaints such as gagging, vomiting, reflux, and drooling
- Children who push away food
- Sensory processing problems (e.g., difficulty eating certain textures)
- Developmental problems
- Non-age-appropriate eating patterns (e.g., continued pureeing of food)
- Children with low muscle tone and/or hypermobility
- Overweight or underweight
- Fatigue, lack of fitness, or energy
- Deviating growth curve
- (Suspected) ASD and ADHD
- Unbalanced diet
- Abnormal bowel movements (or other toilet-related issues)
- Physical complaints such as headaches and stomachaches
Assessment and Treatment
Assessment and treatment will involve collaboration between pediatric physiotherapy, pre-speech therapy,
and a dietitian. After an intake and observation, the experts will draft a treatment plan, all under one roof!
Pediatric Physiotherapy
Through examination and several standardized tests, the pediatric physiotherapist will assess the health issue.
The therapist evaluates posture, stability, tension, and sensory processing. The findings are discussed,
and if necessary, a treatment plan is developed in collaboration with the child, parents, and other care providers.
If sensory processing issues are present, treatment will include Sensory Integration Therapy (SI Therapy).
For various treatments, collaboration with a pediatric manual therapist may occur. For children with toilet-training
issues and/or constipation, collaboration with a pediatric pelvic physiotherapist is possible.
Prelogotherapy
The prelogopedist plays an essential role in the eating team for children with a focus on oral motor skills, sensitivity in and around the mouth, reflexes in the mouth area and building solid foods and structures. The prelogopedist also looks at eating manner, drinking and swallowing function. Through specialized examination and treatment, the prelogopedist treatment, the prelogopedist helps encourage swallowing, chewing chewing, sucking and developing healthy eating habits. eating habits.
Dietitian
"Buikgevoel" is a primary care dietetics practice specializing in child nutrition. Nutrition is crucial for a child's growth and development, and difficulties in this area can cause significant concerns. The pediatric dietitian calculates what a child eats, determines their needs, and provides advice on what they should eat to stay healthy and grow properly. The recommendations consider the family's habits and circumstances. If necessary, advice is given regarding the use of additional nutritional supplements.
Reimbursement and Referral
A referral from a doctor is required for the eating team. For children, treatments are covered by health insurance under the basic package.
- Physiotherapy treatments for children under 18 are covered up to 18 sessions
- Pre-speech therapy is fully and unlimitedly covered
- The dietitian is covered for at least 3 hours per year
